CIVIL SERVICE ACADEMY
ITSR started Civil Service Academy in 2018 to provide its students opportunity for career development in Civil Service. It is funded by ITDP (Integrated Tribal Development Project), Wayanad. Indian Civil Service is considered as the premium service under Govt. of India and heads all the departments under it.
Historically, lower castes and outcastes in India are systematically excluded from administration. This legacy of administration continued even after the independence thanks to their social and educational backwardness. It is the vision of Dr. B R Ambedkar that depressed classes would be really empowered when they have their own share in the national administration. Challenges in this respect are the lesser opportunity for quality education and financial burden one has to carry for this. Being an educational institution exclusively for Tribes, ITSR has a significant role to play in this regard.
ITSR provides Civil Service Coaching to interested students of the institution. Total number of seats restricted to 50 per batch. Selected graduated Tribal candidates other than the students of ITSR are also given admission if the seats are vacant. Admission to the academy is done through entrance examination. It initially started as a foundation batch focussing Preliminary examination. It provides 50 classes per batch. One class have 4 teaching hours plus discussion. Classes are given by faculties selected on the basis of their qualification and experience in the concerned field. First batch started in June 2018 and finished in May 2019. Total 13 students from the academy attended Civil Service Preliminary Examination 2019.
For the second batch, ITSR Civil Service Academy restructured its training programme based on the feedbacks from various stakeholders. Now, it has two courses- foundation course for students who has not completed Degree and Prelim Cum Mains course for students who finished their Degree. Foundation course has 50 seats and it will concentrate on building solid base of the syllabus with preliminary on focus. It will provide 40 classes per batch and one class has 4 teaching hours plus discussion. Prelim cum Mains course has 25 seats and it will provide advanced training to the students with Main exam on focus. It will provide 50 classes per batch and one class has 4 teaching hours plus discussion. The second batch (2019-20) of Civil Service Academy started on August 2019. Now we have 25 students from both the batches.
