Institute of Tribal Studies and Research

Institute of Tribal Studies and Research (ITSR), situated at Chethalayam, Wayanad, is a unique venture of University of Calicut. ITSR has a lush green campus spread over 10 acres. The institute is devoted to serve the specific aspirations of the tribal community of the state of Kerala, intended to be innovative and responsive to the educational needs of the tribal communities and individuals. The ITSR is aimed at ensuring the learning opportunities and experiences which promote leadership, development, professional preparation, civic responsibility, and cultural stewardship among the tribal groups. The mission of the Institute of Tribal Studies and Research (ITSR) set up in Wayanad district of the state of Kerala is to attain excellence in academic quality, scholarly engagement, leadership, cultural enrichment and service of the tribal population of Kerala. The Institute also aims to act as a worthy research center exploring the rich history of the region, the legacy of the tribes in various fields of human endeavor, their indigenous knowledge systems and specific art forms and culture.

BA SOCIOLOGY PROGRAMME
Institute of Tribal Studies and Research is a unique venture of University of Calicut to meet the higher education needs of tribal community. The ITSR offers residential B.A programme in Sociology. The pattern of course is of CUCBCSS ( Calicut University Choice Based Credit and Semester System ) consisting of 6 semesters. A total of 40 students will be admitted every academic year.
Eligibility criteria
1. Minimum pass in plus two or equilent.
2. Students belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) need only apply.
 
MA SOCIOLOGY PROGRAMME
Institute of Tribal Studies and Research is a department of University of Calicut to meet the higher education needs of tribal community. The ITSR offers residential M.A programme in Sociology. The pattern of course is of CCSS ( Choice Based Credit Semester System ) consisting of 4 semesters. A total of 20 students will be admitted every academic year.
Eligibility criteria
1. Any UG Degree of this University or equivalent degree.
2. Students belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) need only apply.
 
                                                                             B.COM COMPUTER APPLICATION PROGRAMME
Institute of Tribal Studies and Research is a unique venture of University of Calicut to meet the higher education needs of tribal community. The ITSR offers B.Com Computer Application residential programme. The pattern of course is of CBCSSUG ( Choice Based Credit and Semester System ) consisting of 6 semesters. A total of 25 students will be admitted in this academic year.
Eligibility criteria
1. Minimum pass in plus two or equivalent.
2. Students belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) need only apply.

Working in close association with the District Tourism Promotion Council, the club aims to promote tour activities to bridge the gap between classroom education and hands-on experience through the art of journeying. The club is integral in the coordination of tour programmes offered to students. It gives proper guidance in selecting locations of historical cultural and industrial significance during study tours and field visits. The club seeks to inculcate right awareness about tourism among the youth. The club also highlights the role travelling plays in enhancing the aesthetic, physiological and psychological well-being of an individual.

HEALTH CLUB

Health Club is an association of students in ITSR for taking care of everything that is necessary for keeping an individual healthy. Health club deals with activities for the students to possess good overall health which includes Mental health, Physical Health, Emotional Health, and Social health. Health Club of ITSR was formed in March 2020, the club’s vision is to develop sensitivity among students in particular and the community in general regarding health and nutrition, awareness and maintenance of a healthy life style. As one of its programmes and activities aimed to this effect, it has been conducting aerobic exercises for the students and teachers.

Objectives

  • To create awareness about the health issues among the staff and students on the campus.
  • To provide counselling for the various health problems to the staff and students on the campus.
  • To promote awareness about Healthy Habits among the staff and students on the campus.
  • To create awareness about the health status among the members of the staff and students on the campus.

Formation of COVID CELL

At the outset of the second wave of Covid 19, a warden meeting of Hostel immates has conducted on 20/04/2021 at 7.30 pm in the Seminar Hall. The meeting has the measures to be taken to prevent the pandemic spread in the campus. The meeting asserts the strict enforcement of covid protocol in the campus. The following decisions have been taken to prevent the pandemic.
