Institute of Tribal Studies and Research

Institute of Tribal Studies and Research (ITSR), situated at Chethalayam, Wayanad, is a unique venture of University of Calicut. ITSR has a lush green campus spread over 10 acres. The institute is devoted to serve the specific aspirations of the tribal community of the state of Kerala, intended to be innovative and responsive to the educational needs of the tribal communities and individuals. The ITSR is aimed at ensuring the learning opportunities and experiences which promote leadership, development, professional preparation, civic responsibility, and cultural stewardship among the tribal groups. The mission of the Institute of Tribal Studies and Research (ITSR) set up in Wayanad district of the state of Kerala is to attain excellence in academic quality, scholarly engagement, leadership, cultural enrichment and service of the tribal population of Kerala. The Institute also aims to act as a worthy research center exploring the rich history of the region, the legacy of the tribes in various fields of human endeavor, their indigenous knowledge systems and specific art forms and culture.

COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION CELL

ITSR has constituted a competitive exam cell. The cell is dedicated for conducting various activities for grooming the students for various competitive exams. The primary focus is imparting training to the students for taking up career in social science.  The cell is conducting various classes for UG Net aspirant Students and UPSC, SSC and PSC.  Our institute truly follows the registrations for those Competitive Exams and gives proper training sessions for students with the help of Alumni Students.

Objectives:

  • To create more awareness of competitive exams to the students.
  • To develop the competitive mind among the students.
  • To build self confidence, critical reasoning skills among the students.

Activities

  • To Conduct the UGC net coaching for PG students both first and second papers.
  • To conduct various registration campaigns for the students.
  • To conduct different programmes like induction, career guidance classes for students.
  • To conduct the PSC and UPSC classes.
  • To conduct model Examinations for Students.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

Institute of Tribal Studies and Research, is promoting Physical Education and sports on par with regular academics. ITSR has well recognized the value of sports and physical activities as a means of developing personality promoting social harmony and discipline. ITSR provides ample opportunity to the students to utilize their leisure time with physical activities to reduce their stress and inculcate a lifetime physical activity behavior in their day-to-day education system. Physical fitness is not only the most important key to a healthy body but also the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual abilities. We encourage mass participation towards physical activities, which enhance the overall cognitive abilities of the students. Our institute desires to prepare all the Sports events to enable participation for University Zone and Inter Zone Competitions. ITSR also established a sports club which truly influence to conduct the various game competitions within the Campus.

                                                       CAREER GUIDANCE CELL

The Career guidance cell was established in our college on 2018.This cell has been formed with the objective to Guide the students in developing skills and job-search strategies required to achieve their career objectives.  Arrangements for Pre-Placement Talks, Written Tests, Interviews and Group Discussions are made as per the requirements of the Firms.

We always believe in equipping our students with the right talent and personality to face the industry requirements. Our focus on placement centre’s on creating new approaches to attract the best from the industry to our campus.

The Mission of Career Guidance Cell is to train the students on industry needs and provide best of opportunities available in Kerala, India and abroad for its students. It also connceted with calicut university placement Cell. 

Objectives

  • Create awareness among students regarding available career options and help them in identifying their career objectives.
  • Guide the students in developing skills and job-search strategies required to achieve their career objectives.
  • Identify suitable potential employers and help them achieve their hiring goals.
  • Organize activities concerning career planning.
  • Act as a bridge between students, alumni and employers.
  • Take feedback from industry and provide inputs for curriculum
  • To arrange Industrial visits for various departments.
  • To conduct technical seminars from industry experts.
